Romance in the Alley unfolds in the late 1970s, chronicling the intertwined lives of two neighboring families in a factory residential area. Next door, the Lin family, featuring a mischievous son, initially seems unconventional but fosters genuine mutual respect and a vibrant home life.

A significant shift occurs when the Lin family moves to Guangzhou, seeking fresh opportunities. This separation sparks a profound realization between Zhuang’s daughter and Lin’s son about their deep romantic feelings. They commit to attending the same university and, post-graduation, bravely overcome family and societal obstacles to be together.
